Description

I don’t know why cheesecake is called ‘New York’, after my second favorite city, but it brings back good memories. In New York, I learned how to sleep in a literal roach motel (move the bed away from the wall, and check the shower first). New York has everything you could want, and even things you don’t. I’ve been there, like most people, in the brutal summers and more brutal winters, where you couldn’t see exactly how deep the slush at a corner was, and went in up to my ankle, then had to sit at an off-Broadway show starring the guy from WKRP in Cincinatti as I waited for my socks and shoes to dry.

But I digress. In New York, I met the creator of The Crow, who drew a picture of its lead character and autographed it while his brother told me what happened to its star, Brandon Lee, that fateful day. All of us could probably write a book on New York. The last time I was up there, I was serving at the Trade Center ruins. The people were still excellent, and so was the city. All of a sudden I’m feeling a tearful pang for a slice of New York Cheesecake.

This framed painting is 6 x 6”, acrylic on newspaper-covered panel.
